Veldskoen’s Top 5 Street food spots in L.A

It is common knowledge that a restaurant with one or more Michelin stars, offers a pretty mind-blowing dining experience, and if you can only afford tap water, will still provide you with ridiculously fancy complimentary bread rolls. But what exactly is a Michelin star? And how does a restaurant get one?

In the early 1900s, not many people had the cash to buy their own cars, so the customer base for tire companies was slightly limited.  In an attempt to get vehicle owners to wear down their tires, and buy more as soon as possible, the Michelin tire company began compiling Michelin Guides of restaurants and hotels “worthy of a special journey”.

Our marketing team thought this was a brilliant idea!

Considering that we sell shoes, not tires, they shamelessly put together a list of our top 5 Street Food spots in L.A, in the hope that you will wear your Veldskoen shoes down in search of street food worthy of… well, at least a very long walk.

Halfway through compiling this list, we realized that we need to fire our marketing team. Our shoes last forever, and you are unlikely to wear them down walking around town. But here are 5 street food spots in L.A, on no specific order,  that deserve a visit any way…

Guerrilla Tacos

Veldskoen’s Top 5 Street food spots in L.A

Fried Oyster and Pork Char Xiu Taco, anyone?  Yes. It’s a thing.  Guerrilla Tacos puts a modern and exciting spin on traditional Mexican food. Just make sure you visit their website before trying to visit them. This Taco truck parks in front of a different L.A coffee shop every day and their menu change every Wednesday. Worth the journey and the search.

El Chato Taco

Veldskoen’s Top 5 Street food spots in L.A

If you prefer a slightly more traditional take on Mexican cuisine, try the El Chato Taco truck.  On most evenings it is parked on the corners of Olympic and La Brea and  is open nine PM to three AM.

Do not be put off by the adventurously named  Cabeza (head) or Lengua (tongue) tacos. They are absolutely delicious and we are 45% sure they are just pure beef and or chicken… At $1.25 an El Chato taco won’t break the bank, and is an ideal way to line your stomach if you are planning a night out to one of Veldskoen’s top 5 night spots in L.A.

Eggslut

Though there are many interesting grab-and-go grub spots at the Grand Central Market, Eggslut deserves a visit! They have turned egg and bacon sandwiches into slutty, brioche and chipotle mayo drenched works of art. You may feel a little dirty afterwards, but also deeply satisfied.

Singapore’s Banana Leaf

Singapore’s Banana Leaf

It’s located at the super touristy L.A Farmer’s Market. So if you are visiting studios for the day, this is where you need to go for lunch! Neither the owners, not all the recipes, are authentically from Singapore, but who cares! Indian Malaysian noodles and the chicken satays are the most popular items on the menu.  Singapore’s Banana leaf is a small restaurant with big flavors!

Soot Bull Jeep

Located in Koreatown, Soot Bull Jeep is a must visit spot if you are craving old school Korean Barbeque. The star menu item is the Marinated Short Rib. The meat is marinated to perfection and cooked over open charcoal flames. You won’t even care about the fact that you smell like a camp fire when you leave.
